As we exit this challenging year I have a “do” and a “don’t” for you.
First, the “do”… Be beyond grateful. Find the good things that happened in the last 12 months. Remember and focus on the good. Then express gratitude through words and actions. Tell people you appreciate them. Show gratitude through acts of service or little gifts.
And as you recall the difficulties in 2020, find lessons you can learn or little bits of wisdom to be gleaned. Be beyond grateful for those learnings and the opportunities they present. Do gratitude, and enter 2021 with a right heart and positive mindset.
Now for the “don’t”. Don’t set goals right now. Wait, Eric. Aren’t you all about strategy, planning, goals, etc? There’s is nothing inherently wrong with goals, but if you are starting with goals, you have probably skipped several steps. Without a clear purpose AND a well-defined Ideal Destination, goals are arbitrary. You need a system more than you need goals.
So discover your purpose in life, what you were designed to do. Next, determine your Ideal Destination, a picture of what you want your life to look like in 5 to 10 years (with your purpose in mind). Then, and only then, begin setting goals that are aligned with your purpose and help you reach your Ideal Destination. The system is what makes it all work.
Find, follow, and finish a system. That is what will catapult you into 2021 with purpose & power. Do gratitude. Don’t set premature goals. Happy New Year!
